Louie painted his traditional country located west of the Sandover River on Utopia Station. This cattle station was bought back from white owners in 1978. Louie Pwerle was a ceremonial Utopia boss man and was responsible for the initiation ceremonies involving boys becoming men. His works are traditional ground depictions involving secondary initiation and “man’s business”, whilst also representing the same body paint designs worn by the men for the ceremonies. Louie is older brother to Cowboy Louie Pwerle. Collections:
