Thomas Tjapaltjarri

Thomas Tjapaltjarri was born circa 1960 in the Gibson Desert, Western Australia. In 1984 Thomas and his brothers Walala and Walimpirrnga were members of the lost tribe group of nine, dubbed “The Last Nomads”, that made national headlines. This was because they walked out of the Gibson Desert and made their first contact with the “modern” world having lived a traditional life beforehand. Thomas then started painting for Papunya Tula artists after encouragement from Warlimpirrnga.
Thomas is now an established and gifted artist who paint’s his traditional Dreaming. His style is similar to that of his brothers, telling the stories of “Tingari”, important stories concerning the early journey paths of Tingari Ancestors throughout the “tjukurrpa” or dreamtime.
