My Mother’s Country depicts the artist’s homeland in the Great Victorian Desert, Western Australia.
This story concerns the artist’s mother’s Dreaming site; its rich desert sands and hill country and a significant woman’s sites. It concerns the journey of the women north, to the saltlakes of Lake Mackay. At this site, a large group of women gathered, song cycles were enacted and women’s knowledges imparted. The arcs with groupings of three or two lines represents the women’s body paint design of ochres applied to the upper chest.
