Yonde

Yondee’s (Shane Hansen) traditional country is Dumbleyung, approximately 270kms south of Perth. Dumbleyung means ‘large lake’ referring to the salt lakes of Lake Mackay. Stories detail epic journeys of the Rainbow Serpent and esoteric knowledge connected with the ‘Tingari Cycle’. Shellfish are gathered from the mangroves and cooked- designs are of the cracked shells used to obtain the shellfish inside. Yondee remarks that, ‘many parts of the land hold many stories’.
Yondee incorporates the physical landscape with Tingari mythology.
