Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri
Warlimpirgna Tjapaltjarri c 1958, part of the ‘Lost Tribe’, living so remotely in the Gibson Desert- they are cited as the closest work to that untouched by European influence. Many aspects to story- from landforms (sand dunes etc- also Lake Mackay itself in topographical view), camouflage and ‘Tingari’(older man’s knowledges, of which there is much fascination given the geographical location and the geometric patterning). Important man’s inherited stories.
Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri, Untitled, sold at Sotheby's London for £167,000 IBP, September 2016
