Liddy Napanangka was born in 1925 at Mt Doreen and her traditional country near and around Puturlu (Mt Theo), west of Yuendumu in Central Desert. Liddy began her traditional art practise canvas in 1985 painting for Warlukurlangu Artists .Liddyhas inherited some of her father’s Japanangka/Japangardi man’s skin Jukurrpa stories- Dreaming stories which relate directly to her land, its features and animals. The Wakirlpirri Tjukurrpa is Lidy’s father’s Dreaming.
Wakirlpirri Trees grow along the sides of the creek beds. Seeds are gathered and ground to make Yinjirrpi , a sweet drink or the seeds are eaten raw or roasted over the fire. Kali or boomerangs are made from the Wakirlpirri Tree. The wood is used for building fires as it is slow burning and does not extinguish quickly.
