Lily Kelly Napangardi
Born in 1948, Lily Kelly Napangardi has established herself as a highly regarded artist with her Sandhills stories and paintings. She is represented in The Art Gallery of New South Wales and is a previous recipient of the prestigious Telstra Art Award. Signature work depicts an aerial view of her homeland in the Tanami Desert and the windswept sand hill country represented in traditional topographical form. Lily Napangardi life is on the land with hunter-gatherer practices and it is this strong family association and family inheritance line that has shaped her cultural life. Works are sought after for elegant and delicate dot work, creating a powerful sweeping presence when in mass. A major retrospective, in 2002-‘My Story, My Land’, placed Lily along side her notable famous family of artists.
