Category:

Born west of Kiwirrkurra in 1958, Yinarupa Nangala is the daughter of renowned Pintupi artist Anatjari Tjampitjinpa. She started making her classic Pintupi style works in 1996, predominantly painting the country around Mukula. Nangala paints her father’s mother’s stories, mostly concerning women’s ceremony and bush foods. Kampararpa berries are expressed through featured circular shapes, while the women she portrays are distinguishable by their ‘U’ shaped forms. Trees gathered from Uwalki country are represented as part of the Women’s Jukurrpa & songlines depicted throughout.  She uses a muted colour palate, allowing the line and dot work to convey the infrastructure of her home country.
